If there’s one drink that defines the modern coffee culture in Cyprus and Greece, it’s the Freddo Cappuccino. It is sleek, refreshing and features that iconic contrast between the dark, rich espresso and the velvety, snow-white milk foam.
Want to recreate this cafe-quality experience at home? Follow our guide to mastering the craft.
Step 1: The Espresso
Brew a double shot of espresso (approx. 60ml). If you prefer your coffee sweet add the sugar now while the espresso is hot. Stir with a teaspoon to ensure the sugar granules dissolve completely, creating a smooth texture.

Step 2: The Chill
In a Freddo pot with strainer ( Shakers & Milk Jugs | HouseBaristas) place 3-4 ice cubes of medium size and then pour the hot espresso. Using a home or a professional drink mixer (for a professional mixer visit our store at Mixers | HouseBaristas) whip the coffee for just a few seconds until it creates a thin, beautiful crema.
In a glass (short, medium or tall) place medium sized ice cubes (for a short glass go for 4 ice cubes and for medium or tall 5 or 6).
Strain or pour your chilled espresso over the ice.

Your Freddo Espresso is now ready!

Tips:
1. Normally, you should need around 7-9 sec of whipping given your mixer is good. Observe the color and the coffee foam after you finish, If the result is dark brown and with little coffee foam then for your next coffee you should whip for more time like 3-5 sec more. On the other hand, if the color is too blonde then you will have plenty of foam which is also not the desired result. In that case, you need to whip for less time like 3-5 sec less.
2. Don’t use crashed ice in your glass as your coffee will get watery very quickly, especially in the summer time.
Step 3: The milk foam (for Freddo capuccino)
At home you should use cold skimmed 0.1% fat milk (usually with the blue label). Pour the milk in a cup or in a glass and use your mixer to whip. For one Freddo cappuccino, you need 50-60 ml of milk and whip it for around 35-45 sec until you see that a uniform foam is created. With a spoon, add to your coffee as much milk foam as you like.
Tip: To verify the best result, turn the cup or glass upside down to check that you have created the perfect milk foam (Do this above the sink please 😊😊) !
